College Football Award Season

It is officially College Football Award season so its time for me to get mad online. This

year is particularly polarizing as we have a heated debate on topics such as snaps

being a stat, running backs being under appreciated, and whose schedule is harder. We

are hear to provide our completely unbiased opinion (we bet on Jeanty in August) on

who has already won awards and who deserves to win others.

Biletnikoff Award- Travis Hunter

Starting out the gate hot with an award that has caused significant controversy already.

Travis Hunter had a great year at wide receiver but two things should have been

considered that highlight why he shouldn’t have won, he has an NFL caliber QB

throwing him the ball and it can be argued he isn’t even the best wide receiver on his

team. Regardless of what happens with the Heisman this award will be the biggest snub

of the year as San Jose State’s Nash was a force all year and is the triple crown winner

with the most receiving yard, receptions, and touchdowns. INSANE that he finished

second but that’s what college awards are now, a popularity contest.

John Mackey Award- Tyler Warren

Another perfect example of the MAN keeping the little guy down. Tyler Warren was

electric this year and did a little bit of everything for Penn State as he was their number

one receiving target but this award needed to go to Harald Fannin out of Bowling Green.

Who cares about the level of competition and who cares he wasn’t on National TV when

you have a player setting RECORDS all year with over 1,000 yards and 9 touchdowns.

He was electric all year and helped carry Bowling Green to a 7-5 record with as many

wins as Penn State has against top 5 teams. This award may be a bigger snub than the

Biletnikoff award.

Doak Walker Award- Ashton Jeanty

No duh.

Home Depot Coach of the Year- Curt Cignetti

I have no idea if Curt Cignetti is Italian but for the sake of this blog I am going to take a

wild guess and say he is. This one was an easy pick as Curt was able to bring

WINdiana to the playoffs and their first ten win season in program history (a program

that’s over 100 years old). What he has been able to accomplish at Indiana is just short

of a miracle and in a tough week for Italians in the news this is a much-needed win.

Nagurski Trophy- Kyle Kennard

In a offense dominated game playing an SEC schedule where you go against the top

talent week in and week out it is hard to wreck a game like Kennard does. Leading the

Gamecocks on their run to narrowly missing the CFP Kennard had 11.5 sacks and 3

forced fumbles. While arguments can be made for others this one pales in controversy

to other awards on this list.

The Heisman Award- TBD

For an award season this one should be a no-brainer but much like most things social

media has ruined it. In what was once a prestigious award individuals bragging about

snap counts and vying for votes like the unashamed politicians in Washington have

made it a two-horse race with Hunter the odds on favorite. Jeanty has carried a Boise

State team that without him my have won 6 games. With Hunter Colorado would

arguably have the same record. This award should go to Jeanty who has dominated all

year. From taking the number one team in the nation Oregon to the final seconds, to

having the most rushing yards and then the second most rushing yards if you only used

his yards after contact. Sadly it probably wont and that is an absolute travesty. (legal

disclaimer I have Jeanty for Heisman bet)
